New Fallout Season 2 Set Photo Leak Teases the Return of a Jurassic Pal From New Vegas

Fallout is heading into familiar territory for the second season of its streaming show. New Vegas is in the cards, and thanks to a new purported set leak, we might have more confirmation about the sights we’ll see again; specifically, one giant dino.

Warning! Potential spoilers for Fallout Season 2 follow:

The ending of Fallout Season 1 teased the show would head to New Vegas, and later co-showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet confirmed as much. Naturally, you’d expect to see some locales from the Obsidian-developed Fallout: New Vegas.

Fallout Fan Art has shared a photo they were sent, which appears to show a giant T-rex head. While the leak is unconfirmed for now, it certainly implies the show will have Dinky the T-Rex, the roadside mascot of Novac in New Vegas.

Dinky plays a big role in the early parts of Fallout: New Vegas. It’s a major landmark on the player’s route if they take the long way to New Vegas from Goodsprings, and also houses two potential companions as lookouts in the dino’s mouth.

It’s nice to think Novac will appear in the show, as its characters and locale would be fun to see Lucy and the others trek through. There’s a chance it could look substantially different, though, depending on a few factors. The town can end up in several different states depending on the Courier’s actions in Fallout: New Vegas, leaving it either successfully defended, abandoned, or overrun by the Legion.

Despite varied endings, the Fallout show may condense the possibilities down, too. The TV series takes place in 2296, 15 years after the events of Fallout: New Vegas. When asked about what’s happened in the Mojave in the time between, the Fallout TV showrunners said the setting has changed.

“All we really want the audience to know is that things have happened, so that there isn’t an expectation that we pick the show up in season two, following one of the myriad canon endings that depend on your choices when you play [Fallout: New Vegas],” Wagner told GQ.

“With that post-credits stuff, we really wanted to imply, guys, the world has progressed, and the idea that the wasteland stays as it is decade-to-decade is preposterous to us. It’s just a place [of] constant tragedy, events, horrors — there’s a constant churn of trauma. We’re definitely implying more has occurred.”

Where could that leave Novac? The town could still be standing, now reinforced with Bright Brotherhood followers, or it could have fallen to the Legion. Dinky the Dinosaur, or at the very least its head, seems like it could make an appearance.

Seeing the attached gift shop and all its souvenirs would certainly add to the world and fit the tone of the show. There could even be a fun reference with That Gun, a modified .223 pistol that could be found in Novac in Fallout: New Vegas, made to resemble a similar signature firearm from Fallout 1 and 2. If anything, building up some more visual iconography for the show justifies a visit to the Dino Bite gift shop all on its own.

Novac also provides an avenue for the show to establish the history of the area, especially what might have taken place at the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. A cameo for characters like Boone, Manny, Cliff Briscoe, and more are easily possible, especially with Dinky potentially appearing. While the TV showrunners seem determined to avoid canon implications, Novac and Dinky feel like they’re filled with too much potential to simply leave by the wayside.
